Yearn.Finance is an Ethereum-based protocol that works as an aggregator of multiple DeFi protocols, including Aave, Compound and Curve Finance, ensuring that those who deposit or stake their tokens earn the highest possible yield.

It is formally launched in July 2020, by South African developer Andre Cronje, who built it after finding inconsistencies in the returns of different DeFi products.

Yearn.Finance has two core products, Vaults and Earn, among a host of other offerings. Vaults work like actively managed mutual funds, offering a passive investment strategy to the users. On the other hand, Earn works like a lending aggregator that automatically moves funds between multiple lending protocols like dYdX, Compound and AAVE, and decentralized exchanges (DEXs) to earn the maximum interest rates for users.

YFI is the name and ticker of Yearn.Finance's native cryptocurrency.
